We test Public Information Officers during the Bay Area’s Golden Eagle emergency exercise

We work with the Bay Area UASI initiative to support with the delivery of their Golden Eagle exercise series. These drills are designed to enhance public safety throughout the Bay Area by testing how EOC personnel and PIOs respond to coordinated terrorist attacks.

Bay Area’s Golden Eagle

Our involvement focused on testing the response of PIO participants utilizing our secure Social Simulator to challenge PIOs with dynamic traditional and social media feeds, including:

  • Witness reporting to test how responders established situational awareness of the incident (e.g. perpetrator activity and whereabouts)
  • Speculation and misinformation to test how EOC responders and PIOs managed this to share accurate guidance and information with members of the public
  • Stakeholder queries and commentary to test how PIOs handled these amongst competing priorities during the course of the exercise

Learnings identified each Golden Eagle exercise have been used to inform updates to the Bay Area Preparedness Plan which sets out processes for member agencies to follow in the event of a serious public safety incident impacting the Bay Area
