How can you train your Rapid Response Team for a cyber attack?

We train the Rapid Response Team (RRT) within a number of major energy businesses, to ensure they can respond effectively to a cyber attack.

To ease teams into an area that was new for them, we began their training using our Crisis90 platform. Crisis90 allows them to work in small groups, with time for discussion and decision making at their own pace, and to reference their company’s response policies.

We adapted a scenario the team were familiar with, and introduced hackers taking control of the company’s pipeline and demanding ransom payments.

Our cyber training continues to highlight the need for:

  • Familiarisation with an extended network to provide support during a cyber attack
  • Fixed protocols to establish how to respond to such a crisis
  • Strengthened communication across teams

Key results

  • Crisis90 as the first step into a new area of training
  • Adapting a known scenario, unique to the team, to ease them in
  • Further training; to find key external contacts and resources, and in communications
  • Graduation to full cyber simulations
